RoboStock FLL Scrimmage

On Sunday, Team SPORK attended the RoboStock FLL Scrimmage at the FIRST Zone in Charlotte! We helped ref tables, judged projects and robots, and aided about 15 teams, allowing them to get an understanding of the actual competition! Thank you so much to NC FIRST for letting us help at this scrimmage!

iMAGINE STEAM Festival Recap

Yesterday, Team SPORK joined many other STEM groups in Rock Hill, South Carolina for an iMAGINE STEAM Festival. At our tent, we ran SPORKReach and helped children learn more about STEM and engineering. We also performed two stage shows, where we introduced the audience to our 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Robot, Super SPORK 64, and taught them about the FRC challenge. We also got to show off Super SPORK 64’s crazy lift and intake mechanics. The best part of our day was being able to interact and teach kids more about STEM and FIRST, which have changed our lives so much.

Thank you for everyone who came out to see us!–Hartley N.

iMAGINE STEAM Festival

On October 27, 2018, Team SPORK attended the iMAGINE STEAMFest in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This annual festival promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

While at the STEAMFest, Team SPORK ran a game with our robot, SPORKReach, where kids could take turns driving the robot. While not driving, they could throw beanbags into cascading rings (much like Skee-Ball).

Team SPORK also took our SPORKCannon and our 2018 robot, SuperSPORK64, which we demoed during two 15 minute stage shows. During the shows, we explained FIRST, FRC, the 2018 challenge, and some of the technical details of SuperSPORK64. We wrapped up each show by firing off a couple of T-Shirts.

Mathnasium Math Night!

Last night, Team SPORK participated in a Math Night! Displaying our robot SPORKReach, we allowed students to throw bean bags at our robot, drive the bot, and talked to them about FIRST and Team SPORK! We also helped with different math-related and STEM-related activities! Thank you so much to Mathnasium for letting us help!

Here’s a cool video of one of our SPORK members leading a game with SPORKReach at the Math Night!

Mathnasium Math Night

Team SPORK participated in the Mathnasium Math Night at Torrence Creek Elementary on October 25th. At this event, Team SPORK students and mentors led math games and engaged students while educating their parents. Team SPORK also brought SPORKReach and ran a game where students threw bean bags at the robot and drove the robot. Team SPORK enjoyed reaching out to these students and engaging them in STEM activities. Mathnasium is one of our most recent sponsors and we thank them for giving us an opportunity to help them at this event.
