Cannon School FLL Competition

On Sunday, November 18, 2018, Team SPORK volunteered at a FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition at Cannon School in Concord! FLL, the 9 to 14-year-old component of the FIRST program, allows kids to build and compete with LEGO robots that are specifically designed for the year’s game and missions.

Team SPORK helped with everything from refereeing, to judging, to scorekeeping at the competition. Many of our team members filled the field and scorekeeping positions while many of our mentors helped with judging in various categories such as core values, projects, and even robot design!

STEAM Day at the Ada Jenkins Center

On Friday November 16, 2018 Team SPORK volunteered at the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson! We had two booths at the event which both had fun robotics related activities for the kids. At our first booth they were able to drive and pick things up with team-built VEX bots. At our other booth, kids were able to drive and play the ski-ball type game that goes with our outreach bot, SPORKReach. Overall, we reached out to more 40 students in the community through Ada Jenkins LEARN Works!

SPORK Visit to Lowe’s Corporate

On November 2nd, we visited to the Lowe’s Corporate Office and spoke to many employees about our accomplishments in the 2018 season. We presented our robot, Super SPORK 64, and told them about our team. The employees were very interested to hear about what Team SPORK does and they were extremely fascinated with our robot. Thank you so much to Lowe’s for allowing us to visit!
